Kim Forte and Natan Harel of Standing Stone Farm in Alderson, WV are two young and motivated farmers who moved back to West Virginia in 2013. While developing their ideas for their farm business they reached out to VC2 to help them guide their planning process.
VC2 staff Joy Marr and Jill Young were happy and excited to work with these motivated farmers on their business planning. While Vc2 staff was able to provide direction, their motivation and desire to learn made these young farmers stand out. “It was great to see them taking the tools and information gained in workshops and trainings that they’ve attended to make real decisions about the direction of their farm” said Jill Young, Statewide Coordinator for VC2.
“The business planning process, although tedious at times, has been very helpful for our new farm business, Standing Stone Farm” said Kim Forte, “We hope that through the creation of a solid business plan we will lay a foundation of good record keeping and organization which will strengthen our profit margins as we grow.”
Kim and Natan of Standing Stone Farm are currently working on their farm plan and spending lots of time cuddling with their two kittens. Be sure to stop by The Alderson Green Grocer, and The Alderson Community Market next season to find them! You may contact them by email at Standingstonefarms@gmail.com.
