The Create West Virginia Conference was held in Fayetteville, WV on September 24 and 25th. One of the high points in the conference was the opportunity for attendees to vote for one of four businesses vying for a $5000 prize. The prize awarded by Valley Ventures and Forward SWV was to help a fledgling or expanding business move forward.
Two of the impressive finalists are recent VC2 technical assistance clients! We wish to offer congratulations to them both for their hard work and accomplishments in this contest and towards their business growth!
Sunset Berry Farm spoke about their Corn to Kids online fundraising project and several other opportunities they are growing in Greenbrier County to help farmers make a living wage.
VC2 has worked with Sunset Berry Farm over the past two years, on a farm consultation to explore best uses and next steps on their farm and on the development of the website that supports their fundraising initiative ( https://sunsetberryfarm.com/).
Hawk Knob expounded on their journey from college to present day cider pressing and bottling and the need to find and help grow more suppliers in the region, and even more cideries.
VC2 has worked with Hawk Knob Cidery on branding for their whole line of hard ciders, on a business plan that allowed them to seek further funding, and a process consultation with an established cidery to learn about bottling their product without the use of sulfites.
In the end it was Hawk Knob who walked away with the $5000.00 check! Congratulations!
